I was sent this request last week as an Alzheimer's Caregiver Support Group facilitator. I don't know if it's appropriate to post here, so you do what you think is best with it. Deborah

Subject: Documentary Film from Producer of the Crash Reel looking for Subjects

Hi,

My name is Kristina and I’m working on a documentary film about people living with Pseudobulbar Affect, or PBA. PBA is a little-known condition characterized by uncontrollable, sudden outbursts of laughing and/or crying that don’t match what a person is feeling on the inside, which can occur in people with brain injuries or certain neurologic conditions such as stroke or Alzheimer’s. Due to its lack of awareness, many people experience symptoms but are not diagnosed.

The film is being funded by Avanir Pharmaceuticals and produced by the producer of “The Crash Reel,” an award winning documentary about traumatic brain injury (TBI). Our goal with the film is to raise awareness of PBA, highlight some of the challenges of living with this condition and gain some insight into what it’s like to live with PBA. Ultimately, we’d like to profile a few people for the film who suffer from PBA (or are experiencing symptoms) as well as their caregivers.

Might there be a way to reach out to your support group members to tell them about our film?

You are welcome to forward my contact information to any of your colleagues who might be in a position to reach PBA sufferers, people experiencing symptoms of PBA and/or their significant others, families and/or caregivers. If there is anyone you know who might be able to lend some guidance about how to get in touch with these people, please let me know.

I will follow up with you in a few days/a week and see if you’ve thought of anyone who might be interested or able to help me. Let me give you my phone number in case you need to reach me: 818-934-4312.

I appreciate your time. Have a great day.

Thank you,

Kristina Hauser & Samantha Herriman
