Looking for opinions for adaptive clothing.
I have been making "Breakaway" clothing for Clinical Simulators for the past year. (you can see that work at dlura.com or dlurascenes on facebook.) I've been using used clothing to make the simulators more realistic. The SIMS are very heavy and bulky and really hard to dress! With my clothing one person can now dress them.
A few months ago, my friend reminded me of a pair of adaptive pants I made for her son 15 years ago. He's now 22 and now we are making clothing for him as he is unable to dress himself. That got me thinking aboout how much easier this would be for a person that needs assistance dressing and their caregivers.
My latest  project now is new updated, trendy adaptive clothing.
This is leading me to a huge project in making adaptive clothing.
I do not in ayway want to take anything away from the current market that I've been able to find- I have seen a few really great ideas- It's just that I don't see much that I would personally be interested in if I needed adaptive clothing.
Even though I am a Nana, I don't want to look like it!
For this project, I went to Macy's and purchased lots of nice things that I am making into adaptive clothing. I'm going to take them to the abilities expo in D.C. in December. I do have a few other sewers working on this project with me)
For right now, the clothing will come completely apart, separating the back from the front. A person can lay on the side, the back of the outfit laid out, person rolls onto clothing and the front is attached.
I know everone does not have the same needs and wishes but I would love to see a store with really new, trendy & stylish clothing in lots of sizes that you could actually choose from. I get ideas on what young people like from my kids and grandkids. Do you have any ideas, advice, opinions (good or bad) for me? Thanks alot! Janet
