My name is Christine and in 2010, I was a summer intern at the Reeve Foundation. Since then, I was intrigued by the idea of running a marathon - of course for the personal success but also because I would be able to support my favourite foundation!
So I contacted Team Reeve captain Leigh and she set me up with running coach Mark who already reached out to me and gave me very useful tips!
Long story short: I am a complete beginner if it comes to running but I would say I am in decent shape (I live on the 4th floor with no elevator and by now don't have to catch my breath after bringing up my groceries - yeah! ;)).
As of tomorrow, I'd like to start my training and I took Leigh's advice in starting to post my progress here as I am lazy as hell and I think with the community in my back I will be motivated even more :).
Oh and by the way: I am from Germany, so pardon my sometimes not perfect English :).
Feel free to comment or cheer me up or - even more important - virtually kick my butt when I start slacking!

Hi again everybody,
Almost a month has past since my last post - shame on me!
But to my defense, in the meantime, I hurt my knees and couldn't do any running at all. But last Wednesday, I finally started training officially, the way Coach Mark told me to: Running 3miles/5kilometres (for little European me it's much easiert to count in kilometres) the following way: Running three minutes and then alternating 1 minute walking and 1 minute running. It was actually very boring in between, but I made it and it took me ("only"? problably not) 46:10. I started doing weights with my legs as well.
Sooooo, I am very happy for all comments/tips and tricks to help me achieve my goal: Run the half-marathon in March and by that not only getting my but up the couch but also helping my favourite NGO to achieve their sooo-much-worthy cause: finding a cure for spinal courd injury and helping ameliorating the lives of people living with spinal courd injury and their friends and family who do so much to support them!!
Stay tuned for my next update that hopefully will come quicker this time!

So regarding my "running history", since I haven't posted in a while: The final quarter of 2012 was not so good running-wise. I can name numerous excuses and will do so as well: It was cold, I had a cold, I was tired, I didn't have the time and bla-dee-bla-dee-bla... In the end, I just didn't train. Period.
2013 however looks good so far! I have slowly increased then lengths I am running and try to be faster as well.
The half marathon I want to run is on March 10 so 27 days left. As of now, I have run a quarter marathon (10.5k) in 1:10 mns which is very good for me. But I felt like dying afterwards, so running this all again... oof.
Anyways, they close the finish after 2hrs45mns. My goal is 2:30. In order to achieve that, I have to run at an average speed of 8.4km/h.
So within the next 27 days I have to:
- run 20k in my target time to have the confidence for race day (I'll so the steps 12k, 16k, 18k and 21k)
- run fast enough so they won't have closed the finish already when I arrive (would be quite embarassing)
- learn how to eat and drink at a pace of 9km/h
So that's my plan so far.
