CDC Will Not Move Forward with Consolidation of Disability Programs
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has announced that it will not move forward with consolidation of funding of disability programs through the National Centers on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities (NCBDDD). Over the past months, the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation has been working with all our advocates and others in the disability community to reach out to Congress and share the personal stories of how consolidation would impact them.
CDC’s action shows that advocates voices matter, and now the millions of individuals living with paralysis who depend upon services provided by the PRC each day have the security that these essential programs and services won’t be taken away.
This is a great success for the paralysis community! NCBDDD provides funding for the Paralysis Resource Center (PRC) which assists over 200,000 individuals with spinal cord injury and paralysis each year by providing resources focused on promoting health, fostering involvement in the community and improving overall quality of life.
While stopping consolidation is a great success we must now turn our attention to ensure that necessary funding is secured from Congress. We will update you as the budget process continues to develop to let you know how and when you can help.
