Vehicle question for paraplegics and quadriplegics that are in manual chairs

Would like to know how many of you drive from your wheelchair without a swivel seat or transfers? What kind of vehicles do you drive? What are the pros and cons? I was told driving from your wheelchair if you're in a manual is not safe because if you get rear ended or in an accident there is nothing supporting your neck if your back of chair is below your shoulder blades. However I'm having difficulties with a van , swivel seat , spasms when I transfer. The list goes on and on. Much needed recommendations and feedback as soon as possible thank you

Hi Mi,

A few PMs responded to my re-post of your post.  There was no consensus on what to drive- most drove min-vans. Some drove from their chair and other transferred into a swivel chair. There was no definitive feelings from the PMs which operation is safer-  it depends on what the person is most comfortable doing.

One PM that does transfer into a swivel chair suggested a super slick short transfer board

Hope this helpers

Good luck,
Bill

Not  super secretwink but it is private.  We have it set-up for our mentors to connect with each other and to share questions that peers have that they want some help with...................

Hope all goes well with whatever van/ van option you go with............

Take care,
