Disabilities on TV and in the movies

What are your thoughts about the popularity or unpopularity of people living with disabilities in wheelchairs on the big screen? Are they properly portrayed? Should actors "act" or should it be someone living with a disability playing the part?

I came across this article out of Tampa, Florida. Take a look at it. It dicusses wheelchair athletes having a part in a movie. Though it's not that far of a stretch. Here's a line from the article:

"When they said that was going to be the role, I said I can do that," said Green, 42, who shattered his spine in 1987 when a vehicle he was in flipped at Fort Lewis in Seattle. "I've had 20 years experience," Green said. "It's not a real far stretch."
