He has not trunk support. After being in the hospital for 5 months, he has only been home for 3. It has been a real challenge. I'm trying to find another woman to talk to who may be going through the same thing. Is there anyone out there?

Stories on Caregiving

I came across this article yesterday in the newspaper and wanted to share it. It applies to more than just caregivers of individuals living with a spinal cord injury. Daughters bear brunt of caregiving is a piece that follows a daughter who takes care of her father who is living with Alzheimer's. Whether you are a caregiver or not, know someone who is, or want to read a well-written piece, take a look. Was never vent dependant and never lost consciousness so his mental capacity is normal. Has to use his sip and puff for all activities. When I cath him or provide personal care he keeps telling me to be gentle because I'm hurting him. How is this? He wakes up when I am inserting his bullet too. He said his leg spasms hurt. With the amount of movement from touching his feet and from spasm he jumps, I sometimes forget he is a quad. Even as a nurse, this is all so confusing to me.Denise

Help improve continence care and earn $300

Hi,My name is Mikkel Krenchel and I am working on a research project with the goal of finding new ways to improve the lives of people with continence (bladder) issues for my company, ReD Associates. In order to identify the most crucual areas of improvement, I am looking to interview people with spinal cord injuries who use catheters or intermittent catheters about the products they use and their lives in general. Each interview would take about 4 hours, and then there is a short (and fun!) homework assignment that includes spending 10 minutes a day taking pictures of your daily life over the course of 4 days. We will compensate participants for their valuable time and insights with $300. The US part of this study is coming to an end (research is also taking place in Germany, France and the UK) so I need to finish all interviews by the end of next week. So if you, or anyone you know are interested in participating or if you have any questions, please contact me as soon as possible. Send me an email at mkr@redassociates.dkor give me a call at 917 755 6232.I look forward to hearing from you,Mikkel Krenchel--Mikkel KrenchelReD Associates26 Broadway, Suite 2505Tel: (212) 483 8788Mob: (917) 755 6232mkr@redassociates.dkwww.redassociates.dk

Caregiver Support Groups

Click on a state to view Support Groups and other resources in that areawww.caregiver.com/regionalresources/index.htm For more information on caregiving and caregiver support please review the link below as well.
