Hello:
I thought it important to remind folks of the research and safety studies that have been done regarding stem cell research and Human trials overseas. Please follow the link to use the patient guide to help you evaluate if a treatment is viable.
This policy statement was written by our Executive Vice President of Research in 2009:
Position statement on unproven cellular therapies for spinal cord injury
In the
(2009) issue of the journal Spinal Cord, an international panel of scientists and clinicians stake a position on "the sale of unproven cellular therapies for spinal cord injury." This position statement is
must reading for all of us in this field because it lays out a series of rational and cogent arguments (some of which you may not have ever thought about) for not participating in unproven experimental treatments.
However, be aware that the last sentence in the statement is incorrect! Clearly it should read that the statement was endorsed by member organizations of the International Campaign for Cures of Spinal Cord Injury Paralysis (ICCP) and NOT the Institute for Certification of Computing Professionals.
You may also want to revisit the consumer version of the
ICCP panel's guidelines for human clinical trials in spinal cord injury, published several years ago in Spinal Cord.
