    Mother Paralyzed
    By David
My name is David Murphy, and i just joined Team Reeve to run the NYC Marathon on behalf of my mom, who became paralyzed from just below the arms down after a back surgery in Januay.  She is young, 64, and this came as a total shock to us, as I am sure happens to most. After reading some of the messages on this board, i just want to say that you are an incredible inspiration to me and my family.  It has been so hard watching my mom go through this and make adjustments, and just witnessing her emotional pain.  Seeing so many people not only endure but thrive under such difficult conditions is very touching to me.  Thank you for your much needed inspiration.

    Hi David,

You've come to the right place. I commend you greatly for being a part of Team Reeve NYC, too. It is equally inspiring to see the feat that our Team Reeve athletes conquer during all these marathons.

Hi David and welcome! Congrats on joining Team Reeve for your mom..I'm so sorry to hear of her injury. Yes it is a huge shock and lifestyle change anytime someone has that happen, or any other type of paralysis. I was 46 when I was injured so we've had a lost of adjustments to make. Things will get easier as time goes by. Knowing you all be there for your mom will help in her recovery. Being the listen to her- good days and bad...she will have bad days, just like before- these will just be "different". No child wants to see their parents struggle or vice versa...hang in there...where do you all live? We can check if there is a local chapter or support group nearby- it helps sometimes to have someone to talk to face to face- peer mentors are a great avenue...we've all been there and are doing it day to day...if your mom is interested, please let me know and we'll see if we can find her someone, unless someone else has done so already...The folks here at Reeves are VERY helpful!
Take one day at a time....
