Tired of hearing-with your injuries-you're going to have that!
    By Steven
Hi, my name is Steven. My SCI C6,C7 incomplete was in April 2010. From a motorcycle wreck. I spent two months in the trauma center that I was sent to. In June 2010. I was moved to a therapy hospital that would take critical care patients. Thank the Lord for them. When I arrived at this hospital I could move no more than one big toe. Thanks to them and a lot of hard work. I can move everything on my body and feel absolutely everything. My right leg was broken in four places, including my knee which has a metal plate with hardware holding it together. One of my main problems is the hamstrings on that leg. We have tried Botox and that seems to relieve the muscles but not the place back there that runs from the inside bottom of my knee all the way up. This area is always sore and when it tightens up. It pulls me over in my chair and after it stops. I can sit back up on my own. When I tell the doctor about this. I get that well with your type of injury! And I'm tired of hearing that! I worked my butt off to get where I'm at, looking to move forward, but need some help or advice. I have gotten to where I can stand for a few seconds on my left leg, but can't seem to put weight on my right leg. Without it, drawing up. Anyone have any input on this. Please. I'm new here and don't know exactly how this is done. But in reading some of the topics I have already learned a lot. Thanks in advance. :-)

I think the big lesson here is that all SCI's are different. And doctors will try to categorize you so that they can treat you. But since they're not in your body, they really don't know what's going on. I know it sounds idiotic to say you're 'lucky' to have such a great recovery (If you were so damn lucky you would have never heard of SCI!), but you've gotten much furthur than most. Keep in mind that spines are tricky beeotches and they have the final say, not any kind of rehab program. So if you've had great success, by all means keep at it. But also realize that you did suffer a ton of dammage and odds against a full recovery are pretty small. Stay with it though - EVERYONE benefits by keeping in shape and pushing the limits!

Well, to be truthful I just started telling people where togo cause I got sick of the same thing.  You are lucky in some way's.  Some ways not.  I was told all kinds of things.  The stupidest ones stick out.  One doc told me my surgeon wasn't mine and then got in an argument with me!  You can't do this or that.  Another got on the topic of freezers, with the advice that I'd better have a standup one cause a guy like me ( who's 6'6) would never be able too reach things in a normal one?  I think thats normal for alot of them and everyone else gets nervous around broken people.  If your making progress just keep going and remember the good and ignore the bad.  If its only been awhile you may have along way togo but you are already doing better than many guy's that fall off their bike.  I wish I could still drive one!

you've gotten a lot farther then most, i too have total feeling and can move just about any muscle.  just keep plugging away, you never know how far you'll get.  do you take baclofin for spasms?  that might help you.  i'll say a prayer for you, God bless you!

Hi Steven. I'm Terry and I am a T11 T12 incomplete. I too was injured in 2010, though mine was a medical mishap. Before I was moved to a rehab, a nurse at the hospital told me "just get used to it  (the pain)."  I do have constant pain, numbness, tightness,  etc. But I did find a wonderful specialist and am now in counseling, which is also helping me deal with my altered life. I wish I could give you a definite answer, but you're not alone.  Welcome.

Thanks guys. :-) And yes I do take baclofen like three times a day. Another question is what kind of specialist doctors do you go to for muscle spasms and muscle drawing issues. I know life will never be the same but I am the type of person who believes in a you talk to God about what's going on and what you need help with and push yourself he will help you along your journey. It has gotten me this far. :-)
