Students Help Classmate Get Wheelchair for Marching Band
    By JLo
Who says a wheelchair can't be part of a marching band?

15-year-old, Josh Brown, is living with muscular dystrophy and has a passion for music. He hopes to play on the field with the rest of his marching band members. Read how they are helping to make that happen..

"Well I play snare drum and I really need to be able to move around the field while playing with both hands," Brown said. "But trying to drive takes up one hand and so I need just an amazing wheelchair that can pretty much move by itself."

The drum line director John Apodaca has worked closely with Josh and one day after a football game decided that Josh wasn't going to be on the sidelines anymore.

"I just looked at him and said well, we're done with that and he said what do you mean and I said we're going to get you on the field next year," Apodaca said. "We're done with parking you right here we're going to have you playing that snare drum, we're just going to make it happen."

So in the past few weeks the band has rallied together. They are trying to get the attention of engineering groups at universities and in the private sector that could build Josh this ground breaking chair to march in.

Josh said that this chair could help him be where he's supposed to be on Friday nights.

"Well I'd be with the snares, I'd be with the drum line marching around and it would just be amazing," Brown said.
