I’m a T-9/T-10 paraplegic, and I practice intermittent catheterization. In terms of treating urinary incontinence as a result of a neurogenic bladder, I have tried all the various drugs (Ditropan X-L, imipramine, etc. and the respective maximum dosages), and have had no success in terms of staying dry in between catheterizations. Additionally, I tried the botox injections into the bladder, as my doctor was optimistic (as was I) that it would work. However, it did not yield the results we were anticipating. So apparently, the next option is bladder augmentation. Has anyone had this procedure to treat urinary incontinence, and if so, what is your take on it? I’m looking for basically whether or not you think the good outweighs the bad (in terms of the procedure), the down time/recovery time after surgery, and most importantly, has it resolved the incontinence issue and kept you dry in between catheterizations?
And if you know or have heard of any other viable options (different drugs, procedures, etc.) in terms of treating urinary incontinence, please share.
Any input, insight, advice, etc. is GREATLY APPRECIATED!
