    Diaper Rash, need help...
    By paris 85
I have tried everything from using topical creams prescribed by the primary doctor such as: Nystatin and triamcinolone Aceronide and Clotrimazole and Betamethasone Dipropianate creams.

I have used a combination of Neosporin and Desitin maximum strength 40% oxide. Currently using a combination of Balmex Ointment mixed with pure petroleum jelly.

I only started using the Balmex and the petroleum jelly combination yesterday. I am hoping this will help and stop the rash, it has been more than two months this started and at this point, the skin is very red and dry. The very thin top layer of the skin is gone, I honestly do not know what to do, my concern is the potential of the skin braking and starting a sore.

I am trying to get the insurance company to approve a wound care specialist or dermatologist to make a home visit in order to make a proper evaluation, no success.....

So far, they have approved a home health nurse to come to the house, today was her first visit; she said she was there to apply the medication. What medication I asked... I need a doctor, N.P  or a  wound care specialist to do a home visit and evaluate and determine what medication should be used.

I suspect others in the site caregivers and/or SCI have had diaper rash issues. Can anyone give me some insight as to what have proven successful for you?

Please help me, help my husband!

The first suggestion may sound bizarre but breast milk will work if you know anyone that has any-My friends daughter had a baby she gave me some expressed milk.  The second best is coconut oil not palm oil - petroleum based products will make the problem worse. The third and most expensive but works wonders on bed sores as well is infrared laser light treatment. I usually can care of the problem with the coconut oil. Essential oils like lavender can be added to the coconut oil. hope this helps

Are you sure that it isn't a yeast skin infection vs diaper rash? Many folks mistake skin yeast infections for diaper rash diaper. It is important for your husband to "air out" each day. Spend time in bed with the rash side up and a sheet loosely over him.  Sleeping commando helps as well.

Many years ago we used to use a skin barrier protection--I will do a google search and let you know if I can locate it.

Please push for a visit by a doctor----if there has been no response, it is quite likely it is not a rash.

Best thing to do is keep a diaper AWAY from the area. In other words, let it air out as a previous commenter noted. My wife has found a wonder powder for any skin problem- we simply puff it on with the supplied puffer device, and anything seems to clear up in a couple of days. The powder was first prescribed by a skin care specialist when she had a sore from an operation on her back. It works wonders and we keep some of it around for emergencies. It is called Misoprostol (topical) 0.01% in a puffer. She now gets it prescribed by her normal doctor when we run out. See if you can get your doctor to prescribe it, and check to see if it has any side effects or interactions which might hurt your spouse first.

Thank you for all the good suggestions. I will look into all of these.
I can't tell the diference between a diaper rash or a yeast  infection.
I am trying for the insurance company to provide wound care but, everything
I have tried has resulted in a dead end. It has been over a month and the skin looks
dry. I will start with the coconut oil and  citric  aid.

This is a diaper rash from yeast infection. It frequently will have white spots

yeast or candida rashes appear in creases as shown above

This shows a more traditional diaper rash that spreads over the area of moisture.  You can do a google search for more images.

    Best of luck!

You can use monistate, or the spray for athelets foot--same thing just that spray hurts more.
Antibiotic use will trigger the yeast infection as will moisture.

    Good luck

i use a powder rather than a cream because you have to use so much pressure to wipe the creams off and the creams stay so mucky that it irritates my husbands skin even more. more than likely it is a yeast infection and nystatin powder works wonders.
