This is where the staff of the Reeve Foundation is sharing up-to-the-minute information and putting some context around the news affecting the spinal cord injury and paralysis community. Not to mention insight into what's going on here at the Foundation. Feel free to comment and offer suggestions. We'll respond.

In class last night, while discussing ethical issues, a classmate mentioned that that all too often, we only hear about the bad and not the good. I thought about something I learned early on in my college days when I studied broadcasting: "If it bleeds, it leads." The news sure does like to report on all the bad stuff with only sometimes the good sprinkled in.

Well here's a nice feel good piece that is sure to make anyone remember, there really are good people out there willing to work together.

A group of organizations have come together in a big way to help a soldier. Sgt. Dwayne Cole was shot on a base while serving in Iraq- it paralyzed him from the chest down. Because of his condition, frequent power outages at his home have been very dangerous -- until now.Read More

Here is a new column from Saralee Perel:

"Where have you been?" a neighbor named Stacy said.

"Where have you been?" my neighbor, Robert, asked.

I was riding my three-wheeler bike down our road. The bike is made specifically for people like me with an SCI. "Well," I said to the dozen or so neighborhood folks who asked me the same question. "I took time off to be depressed."Read More

19-year-old Jared Coppola had faith all along in his favorite NFL team, the New England Patriots, who are on their way to Super Bowl XLVI. Once, a football-player himself, Jared is now living with a spinal cord injury from a football injury in September 2009. Aside from his favorite team, Jared also has faith in himself.

Now part of the Reeve Foundation's NeuroRecovery Network (NRN) at Boston Medical Center, Jared continues to persevere.

Having been at the NRN since June 2010, Coppola has come a long way. "When I first started, I might have been able to stand, but wasn't able to take any steps by myself. Now I can do the six minute test, I walk 329 feet by myself with a walker in six minutes." (Pictured.)Read More

A snowmobiling accident didn't keep 33-year-old Grant Korgan, living with paralysis since 2010, from getting back in the snow and doing the unthinkable. Korgan traveled 75 miles in sub-zero temperatures to the South Pole!

"Although my body has been broken, my spirit never will be. I am unbreakable!" Korgan, 33, of Incline Village, said in a statement posted on the crew's Web site.Read More

Millions of us are guilty of being addicted to reality television. The recipe is so successful we keep seeing new reality shows pop up every day in addition to the billionth season of some old time favorites. (Heck, just this morning I read one about tattoo artists!) Undoubtedly, these shows, whether it's actually reality or not, tend to give society a good laugh if nothing else.

But here's a reality show featuring Reeve Foundation ambassador, Angela Rockwood (pictured 3rd from left,) that is way more than a good laugh. Premiering in April, the Sundance Channel will bring Push Girls to the airwaves.

Of all the marathon athletes I am surrounded by with Team Reeve, I still could not imagine running a marathon. That's 26.2 miles. Heck, a half-marathon at 13.1 miles I still think is strenuous. So I commend greatly any one who completes these and pushes their body to the limit.

But 26.2 miles isn't much to Andy Campbell. He plans on traveling 30,000 BY WHEELCHAIR! The full expedition (UK to China and Alaska to Chile) will take two years. adventure-journal.com caught up with Andy to ask him some questions about the trip. Read More

It was the 5,000th day in a row it was over 103 degrees in Oklahoma when I went there last summer. I knew then that sometime this winter I’d be wishing for those days back.

I was in Oklahoma City for three days making a video about Todd Brown. Todd is the CEO of 180 Medical. His company specializes is catheters and catheter-related products. The Reeve Foundation was focused on him because he is an exceptional success story. We wanted to talk to him, his co-workers, his friends, and his family about his life. I shot hours of footage and made it fit into about 10 minutes. I wanted to take a few paragraphs and talk about all the minutes that didn’t make it into the video. Read More

Some people face a tragedy in their lives and never want to revisit it again. 26-year-old Joe Stone, decided to do just the opposite. Living with a C7 level spinal cord injury from a 300 feet paragliding/speedflying accident in August 2010, Stone proved doctor's predictions wrong when he regained some use of his hands.

So when he first tested out his new handcycle, he decided he would return to the place where he was paralyzed on the one-year anniversary of his crash.

“I don’t know if I necessarily believe everything happens for a reason,” he said. “Everything happens. It opens up opportunities, and it’s how you take advantage of those opportunities.” Read More

I was in New York City over the weekend, and I couldn't help walking by Macy's, seeing the bright lights spell out "Believe" and thinking for a second of Eric LeGrand.

This past Friday night, ABC News in New York aired a piece on Rutgers football player Eric LeGrand's recovery. Eric is enrolled at the Reeve Foundation's NeuroRecovery Network at Kessler Rehabilitation Institute in West Orange, NJ. Read More

You might recall the story of the Berry family in July which killed the parents and seriously injured two of the children. Here's a bit of an update as Hanukkah nears of  brothers Aaron and Peter, who are now living with paralysis from the waist down. The community has greatly come together to help the family.

"We definitely have our ups and downs, which is only normal, but they inspire all of us," Simone Berry said during an interview Friday. "They're doing very well."Read More

Back in May, the Reeve Foundation announced a research breakthrough of epidural stimulation (EpiStim) where a young man, Rob Summers, was able to regain some use of his legs, limbs, and other functions. Rob visited our home offices here in Short Hills, NJ a few months ago. Meeting him in person was a wonderful way to embrace the hope that surrounds him. Read More

Reeve Foundation Intern Michael J. Thunell wrote this piece about Peter Judkins, an incredible young man who was adored by his family and friends and who sadly passed away in May 2010.  We are honored and humbled to share Peter's story as a testament to the power of Thanksgiving, as we express our profound appreciation for the generous support that Peter's loved ones have shared in his memory to help others.
