As you've probably heard, Health Insurance Marketplaces launched across the country on October 1, 2013. But if you're currently covered under Medicare, you're probably wondering how these new Marketplaces impact you and your coverage.
If you are a Medicare beneficiary, the following are some important things to know:
Medicare is not impacted by the Health Insurance Marketplaces so, if you are already covered under Medicare, no action is needed.
Medicare's open enrollment period hasn't changed. In 2013, Medicare open enrollment will run from October 15 through December 7. During this time, Medicare beneficiaries can make changes to their health plans and prescription drug coverage for 2014. To find out how to make such changes, visit medicare.gov or call 1-800-MEDICARE.
The new Marketplaces won't affect your choices, and your benefits won't be changing.
Note: The Marketplace does not offer Medicare supplement (Medigap) insurance or Part D prescription drug plans.
