This morning, Tuesday, July 30, 2013, the Reeve Foundation lost a dear friend who was a true inspiration to all of us. Jon O'Connor, 42, was a member of the Reeve Foundation Board of Directors and the Director of NextSteps Fitness in Chicago, a Reeve Foundation NRN Community Fitness and Wellness Center(CFW).
Jon sustained a spinal cord injury 12 years ago, and devoted himself since that time to improving the lives of people living with paralysis. He was an honest, courageous, and compassionate leader who worked tirelessly to help and do well by others. Jon will be deeply missed, but his spirit and example will always serve as our inspiration -- and a strong reminder that we need to work harder and faster to put an end to the suffering brought about by paralysis.
"Jon was a gentle giant who led by example, enthusiasm, and an incredible mind for business," said Peter Wilderotter, President and CEO of the Reeve Foundation. "His generosity and knowledge of our care and cure mission was infectious and always directed towards those living with spinal cord injury and their families.
Jon's family is in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
