About the topic:
During this lecture, Jeffrey Dougan will provide an overview of the MOD and state efforts on Emergency Preparedness for people with SCI. He will offer valuable information about how consumers can advocate for their needs by having a plan in place before emergencies occur. Mr. Dougan will discuss important elements to include when developing a Personal Emergency Preparedness Plan.
He’ll describe how to prepare an emergency backpack to “grab and go” when needed, and will review helpful items included in “Go Packs” provided by the MOD for individuals with disabilities. Mr. Dougan will also review additional state and national resources to help prepare for emergency situations.
About the speaker:
Jeffrey Dougan, Assistant Director of Community Services for the Massachusetts Office on Disability (MOD), has been with the MOD since 2001. He works closely with the Commissions on Disabilities, Independent Living Centers, and many state agencies for better inclusion of people with disabilities throughout the Commonwealth. Mr. Dougan has presented over 150 Emergency Preparedness Education Programs to nearly 6,500 people. The MOD has been recognized by FEMA in the 2012 Individual and Community Preparedness Awards.
