New in the PRC Library…
Danny and the Merry-Go-Round. By Nan Holcomb, Illustrated by Virginia Lucia. Jason & Nordic Publishers, 1984.
This timeless children’s book is part of the Turtle Book series. The primary intent of these stories is to help children with physical disabilities to develop a positive self image. Danny and the Merry-Go-Round exemplifies this by relating a touching story of how when Danny, who has cerebral palsy, meets Liz at the playground one day, her friendly gesture helps him feel better about himself. Liz is not deterred by the fact that Danny is in a wheelchair and, with the help of her dad, gets him to join her on the merry-go-round. This new experience proves to Danny that, despite his physical limitations, he doesn’t always have to be content with just being an observer and can actually be part of the fun!
