This is where the staff of the Reeve Foundation is sharing up-to-the-minute information and putting some context around the news affecting the spinal cord injury and paralysis community. Not to mention insight into what's going on here at the Foundation. Feel free to comment and offer suggestions. We'll respond.

The Book of Boo: Raising a Wheelchair Winner. By Lesli Richardson. Lulu, 2007

While hearing the news that your child will be born with spina bifida is no doubt a devastating blow for any expectant parent, it should by no means be considered a death sentence. Joey, aka ‘Boo’, is a happy, active child. Joey also has spina bifida. His mom, Lesli Richardson, decided to tell Joey’s story with the hope that others in this situation would be comforted by it. Interspersed with her personal experiences and observations, are questions that she posed to members of SB-Parent email list, which Lesli has run for over 10 years. The combined information gives considerable insight about raising a child with spina bifida and leaves the reader hopeful that there can be a rich, full life for your child regardless of this disability.

A copy of this book can be checked out from the Paralysis Resource Center’s library. Please see the online catalog and borrowing instructions.
