Desolate Warrior: The Inspirational Story of Will Ribeiro. By James Ryan. Lulu, 2010 www.lulu.com

After former professional fighter and Olympic-level boxer, Will Ribeiro, suffered a life altering head injury from a motorcycle accident in Brazil in December of 2008, he felt he had no choice but to post a message on Facebook asking for help.

Will felt abandoned by his mixed martial arts business managers and it seemed there was nowhere else to turn. Help eventually came in the form of the author, James Ryan, a MMA sportswriter who felt compelled to answer Will’s message and champion his cause.

In this book, through a series of interviews, Mr. Ryan tells Will Ribeiro’s side of the story as well as getting input from his former business managers. It is an interesting account in which many different perspectives are put forth letting the readers ultimately form their own opinion regarding the events that followed Will’s accident. Aside from presenting both sides of the issue, the book is also a testament to Will Ribeiro’s determination to move forward with his life.

A copy of this book can be checked out from the Paralysis Resource Center’s library. Please see the online catalog and borrowing instructions.
