NFL QB mimicking Superman. Good idea?

A few weeks ago we came across this blog from a journalist (Jimmie Tramel) at Tulsa World. Have a look a the whole piece but summed it is basically explains that NFL's Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton often celebrates TDs by mimicking Clark Kent, tearing his outerwear to reveal the Superman "S" logo on his chest. Jimmie goes on to write the following towards the end of the blog:

...Every time he scores and does the Superman thing, how about making a donation to the Christopher Reeve Foundation?

Reeve played (superbly) the role of Superman in four movies. He became a quadriplegic following a 1995 horse riding accident and died in 2004. His foundation is dedicated to curing spinal cord injuries. You can Google up the foundation’s web site to read more about it.

And, if you like bling, you can go to wbshop.com and put the words “Superman dog tags” in the search box. You can purchase Superman logo dog tags for $10. Proceeds from the dog tags (the words “go forward” are printed on them) benefit the Christopher Reeve Foundation.

Do you really want to do something Superman-like? Forget touchdowns. The best way to do it is to help someone else. (Picture at right from Midwest Sports Fans)

I'm not even trying to endorse our Superman dogtags (though if you are interested you can purchase them here!) I'm just most impressed that even in the sports-frenzy world we live in, it's nice to see people take the time to realize there is more to it than scoring touchdowns.. and this is coming from the avid football fan that I am! Upon reading the blog, I shipped some dog tags out to Jimmie and received the following response:

It meant a lot to me that you would take the time to send me the package and I really appreciate it. Hopefully the blog that I wrote will draw some attention to your cause and sell a few dog tags. I'm rooting for your foundation.

As they say, it's the little things that make people happy...
