Though time for reflection is in short supply in the run up to the holidays, I have been considering the connections that bring people together and the incredible, inspirational volunteers who are advancing the Reeve Foundation’s mission. Among these volunteers are individuals living with paralysis, and the family members, friends, co-workers, and caregivers of Reeve Foundation community members.
One theme for me has been the opportunity to work closely with many phenomenal women (to borrow from Maya Angelou) whose passionate commitments to our cause are fueled by their own experience living with paralysis or from their personal, social or professional roles and relationships. This past year alone, volunteers in every region of the country who also are mothers, daughters, and sisters AND who are leading companies, teams and families also spearheaded many initiatives and events to raise awareness and support for the Reeve Foundation. Awe is not an overstatement to describe how I feel about these remarkable and tireless advocates, champions, donors and fundraisers. These angels on Earth are focused purposefully on what they can do to help others, without recognition or reward.
To all of you, we extend heartfelt appreciation and admiration. For what you do, for who you are, for how much you give – thank you. Our world goes round and our work goes forward because of you. In the new year, we look forward to building further on the progress you have helped make possible. In the meantime, we hope you will take even just a little time for yourselves and that you also will experience moments of peace, comfort and joy during the holiday season.
