We Need Your Voice To Protect The Rights Of The Disability Community

Call your Senator to tell them to support the Disability Treaty and tell Majority Leader Reid to schedule a floor vote.

The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), or Disability Treaty, is an international treaty that seeks to ensure countries across the globe provide individuals with disabilities equal rights in order to live full, satisfying and productive lives. Already ratified by 147 nations, this groundbreaking treaty is modeled on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which is currently celebrating its 24th anniversary.

Given the impact and importance of the Disability Treaty, and the overwhelming international support, it is unacceptable that the United States has yet to ratify this treaty.

Last week, in a show of support for the disability community, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee voted to move the bill for a full Senate vote. This was a positive and important first step! Now, we need the FULL Senate to bring this to a vote. Considering the full agenda on the Senate's radar right now -- we need to make sure they pay attention to this issue and schedule the Treaty for a VOTE.

This is when your voice and your actions can make a powerful difference!

What we need you to do is EASY and IMPORTANT.

You can help, here's how:

Call your Senator to tell them to support the Disability Treaty and tell Majority Leader Reid to schedule a floor vote.

Call now -- we need this vote to happen before the Senate leaves NEXT WEEK!

- Call 202-224-3121 and ask to be connected to your Senator.

to your followers.

Here are talking points to guide your call:

- Hello, I am a constituent and someone who cares about the rights for the global disability community.

- Senator, you must support passage of the Disability Treaty.

- This treaty is modeled after the American with Disabilities Act and ensures that the rights and protections allowed in the U.S. for the disability community are the same when traveling or living overseas.

- The treaty just passed out of the Foreign Relations Committee and Senator Reid must bring it for a vote.

- Please support the treaty and tell Senator Reid to bring this for a floor vote before the August recess.

The Disability Treaty is an international treaty designed to promote the rights and dignity of people with disabilities worldwide. Together we can urge the Senate to act so that the disability community is granted equal rights across the globe.

This is a crucial time for us to unite our voices and ensure the Treaty is ratified immediately.

Together we achieve more -- act now!
