No matter where we went in Egypt there were always friendly, helpful folks ready to assist. Of course, the wheelchair was an oddity to most. I only say one other person in a whhelchair the entire 16 days - a French tourist, who barely got to see anything as he was on a large tour - and the guide kept the "locals" at a distance. such a shame. ]
Our driver had been injured in a car accident a few years before wer wnet to Egypt. He had been in a wheelchair 2 years and never left his apartment.
When I was on my own, going to meet up with my friend - teenage girls would get giggly and want to push the chair. Teenage boys ignored me, but kept glancing (like I didn't notice).

This is one of those photos that you didn't realize you'd taken until you get the photos back. The Pyramids - no matter how many photos, movies, etc. you've seen - they don't do the "real thing" justice. Thanks to a wonderful driver and guide I got "up close and personal" to the Great Pyramid. For that matter I got "up close and personal" to a lot 0f places in Egypt thanks to helpful, friendly people. From the Pyramids, to the narrow allyways in the Khan-el-Kjalili, to ships on the Nile - and beyond.

My first day in the park and we encountered this fellow - exhibiting a rare curiosity. Normally the wildlife ignore the tourists - unless you do something stupid like approacing too close. But this fellow actually turned and looked at us (probably wondering what we were doing in his space! Yellowstone is a wonderful experience - and quite a lot is accidently accessible.
The walkways were originally built to keep people off the formations and out of the boiling water - and they're great for wheelchairs. There was just too much to do and not enough time to do it all.

Going through the gorge to Petra - the "Rose-Red City" of the ancient world - is somrething that I never, ever thiought I'd be able to do. Geting into the carrage (literally a box on wheels to which a horse was attatched) was tough enough going through the gorge - let's just say that all my bones were rearranged! Once through the gorge I was than pulled backward! through the city (about 1-1/4 miles). An amazing experience in an amazing place.
