I enjoy being an advocate for people with disabilities. I am not afraid to speak my mind. I have a voice and I like to use it. I take pride in being able to help others. Whether it is helping a newly injured patient, or just offering my email or phone number to someone who needs to talk.

Tis the Season to...Fall

Some say we only have two seasons here in South Dakota – winter and road construction But one thing I love about living here is that we get seasons. All four of them. It's Fall, that time of year when the leaves are changing gorgeous colors, the weather is getting cooler, football is on TV, the kids are back in school and it’s time for my birthday. This is my favorite season of them all.

Just the other night on Keloland news they had a story about Spearfish Canyon and how people come from all over just to see the spectacular Fall colors. Spearfish is on the other side of the state so I doubt I would travel that far to see leaves changing colors, but check out watch the video in the news clip – it is just simply breathtaking.

With Fall comes FOOTBALL. It is true, I am obsessed. I watch as many games as I can because not only do I love my Dallas Cowboys, I love fantasy football, although I am not doing very well. The one year I get Peyton Manning and Arian Foster on not one, but two teams, they are both injured. Manning is out for the year and Foster, when he does play, isn't scoring many points. By the time drafts are over there is not much left for good quarterbacks and running backs so I'm scrambling to stay alive. All this is for competitive fun and bragging rights at the end of the year. We'll see if I can find some sleeper picks and make a comeback.

We are into week four and all of the Cowboys games have come down to the last minute or overtime. They are helping my low blood pressure issues with these tight, close games. My Boys are injured and the bye week can't come soon enough. I can't wait to see how we play with a healthy team.

My birthday was on September 17th and I wasn't planning on having a big party this year. I'm 32 now and you don't really need to throw a big bash anymore. I decided the week before to have a Sunday Funday Football Birthday Bash and get as many of my friends and football fans together to celebrate in our team jerseys and watch the Cowboys.

I have the greatest friends in the world and we had an absolute blast watching the Cowboys squeezing out a win over the San Francisco 49ers in over time. Tony Romo played with broken ribs, a punctured lung, and a few others were also injured. It was a heroic effort by Romo. My dad had a Dallas Cowboys cake made for the event. I don't know how I ended up getting caked since my team won, but I did. Didn't stop me from caking the 49er fan that caked me. It was all over – on my face, in my hair, and on my jersey. Good times. I also got a photo from the game from Shannon – the social media guy I mentioned in my last blog. The loss to Detroit stung yesterday as we had that game in the bag. It is going to be a long two weeks without my Cowboys.

I also won a bet with a 49er fan: whoever lost had to wear the opposing team's jersey and make it their Facebook profile photo for two weeks. I'm happy to say he looks good in Cowboy blue. I'm loving every minute of it!

And last but not least why I love Fall is – HALLOWEEN!!! I know what I am going to be this year and have already begun to build it. ordered a few things for it. I will need some help building it from my dad, and no, I am not telling you what it is. I have yet to find any great Halloween costume contests, but it is still early. Hopefully, they will start posting those party plans soon. I don't want any mixups like last year. I love the idea of making your own costume – chances are there won't be another one like yours. Being different and standing out is what I love about Halloween. They sky is the limit. Have you given any thought to building a costume around your chair?
