Lyena's Hollywood Shuffle
That's great to hear, Krista. Many people trash "Glee" because Artie isn't an actor in a chair, but on the show and through The Glee Project, they have included a lot of disabled performers. And looks like they are continuing to do so.

Getting a job when you have a disability is no doubt a hurdle no matter the category or specialty, but getting a job as an actor with a disability is often its own its own special kind of hell. It&...

Six Degrees of Disability
Anthony, thanks so much for your always thoughtful responses. The simple point I was trying to make, at least about myself, is that of course I'm disabled in the current definition of the term, but I don't actually internalize that, ie, don't feel it, 90% of the time. A famous line from the Stoic Marcus Aurelius: "Get rid of the judgment. Get rid of the 'I am hurt,' you are rid of the hurt itself." That's what I'm talking about -- the self-judgment.

Six Degrees of Disability
This whole disability thing is a psychological conundrum, or maybe just a rhetorical conundrum. To define yourself as disabled is an unhealthy way of thinking. It tends to give your condition too m...

"Don't Follow Leaders, Watch The Parking Meters"
Anthony, great stats. I wonder what percentage of adults have a disability and can walk those distances. The point is, I think the parking laws should be much more stringent and those spots just for those who actually need them. Again, thanks for the info. AR

I, probably like you, look for every appearance of a character with a disability every time I turn on the TV. (Yes, I still use a TV and not an iPad, iPod, or laptop for my viewing pleasure.) Part ...

Mykella, in the article, I noted that people "with respiratory problems or difficult mobility problems" should certainly be given special consideration. But if you use employment rates to decide who parks for free and who doesn't, does that include the millions of non-disabled people who are unemployed or under employed? As uninformed as you think I am, I'm merely trying to distinguish between those who actually need up-close accessible parking and those, non-disabled and disabled, who take advantage of it. Right now, the abusers are ruining it for everyone. Anthony, your point about baby boomers is well taken. But in 2012, old does not necessarily equate to disabled. And out of shape is not formally a disability. Or is it?

The Way We Were
Kelsea, you're right -- how they finally ended the story of Matthew Crowley's paralysis was a total cop-out! Two episodes later, he got up and walked across the room! His paralysis was only temporary. Personally, I was appalled when I watch that. Up to that point I was buying it. Now I have deep suspicions about the whole frothy series.
